Touched by loss. Empowered through community.

Jane Ascroft

I was devastated when my husband Jim died the Sunday after Thanksgiving in 2008.  It had never dawned on me that we wouldn't grow old together as a couple, and I was unsteady for a while, unsure how to navigate life without him.  My stepchildren were 17 and 19 at the time; I was in my early 40s.  The peer support I tapped into by meeting other widows helped assuage some of the isolation I felt after my loss.  The journey though harrowing at times, has been far more bearable because of these connections.  This is why I'm involved with CYWC.  I'm grateful for the support I've received, and look forward to giving back in some tangible way.
