Join CYWC for a fun dinner experience to kick-off the summer! Bahama Breeze is an island-themed restaurant with a delicious menu, outdoor seating and live music. We will be there starting at 7 p.m. but come when you can!
Young widowed parents will have the opportunity to meet each other at this family-friendly event at Fitz's Spare Keys in Elmhurst.
But don't think this event is only for people with kids. We welcome any young widow or widower who would like to attend. The more the merrier! As always, feel free to bring a friend (widowed or not) if you don't want to come alone.
Your ticket includes bowling, shoes, pizza, salad, and soft drinks. There will also be a cash bar.
A few things to note as you buy your tickets.
Please "buy" a ticket for any child you are bringing even if they are under 5 years of age so we have an accurate count of how many people are attending.
Since CYWC has a basic PayPal account, the checkout process involves an extra step. You need to put each type of ticket you want into your cart separately. That means you will indicate you want an adult ticket, click on the Add to Cart button, proceed to the PayPal site, indicate the number of adult tickets you want and then click on Continue Shopping to return to the CYWC site. You then repeat the process for the other types of tickets you want. PayPal will total everything up for you and you pay when you are done.
You will not get an actual ticket. You are reserving your spot for the event.
Join us on Friday, September 28th, as we celebrate Oktoberfest at the Irish American Heritage Center's Fifth Province Pub. We'll meet at the pub at 7:30 p.m. but feel free to join us at any time. The party goes until midnight!
Check back here and on our FB page for details on how to find us that night.
Young wife, Melody, has never been to a funeral until her husband dies in a plane crash. Expected to instantly assume proper widowhood, Melody is left to wonder, what's the right way to grieve? Fortunately, her mother-in-law is a professional. Widow, that is. Under her guidance, Melody must try her best to be a good little widow.
Be a Good Little Widow is a surprisingly funny and moving portrait of loss and longing.
Please consider joining Wendy as she hosts Corks for a Cure, a fundraiser for the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), in memory of her husband, Chris. This wine tasting event will offer the opportunity to try delicious wines and appetizers and will include a silent auction and a drawing. Net proceeds will benefit the ABTA.
Please go to the event website for more information and to purchase tickets!

The death of a parent may present challenges for a child in the school setting. Whether it is the need for extra attention from teachers, ongoing support from the school system or sensitivity around certain topics and assignments, how your child's school deals with the death can have a significant impact on their education. Regardless of how long ago the death occurred, it can be frustrating and stressful trying to advocate for your child as they grieve and try to succeed in school. Grief experts and social workers on the panel will share information on how child development impacts grieving and what school programs have helped children dealing with these issues. Parent panelists will share the challenges they have dealt with in their own school districts and the student panelist will talk about her own experience.

Why: To raise money for the scholarship!! As you know, John L Ortiz Memorial Scholarship is designed to provide to children who have lost a parent. These scholarships, though small in the big picture, make a big difference for the families who need them. And the best part, the money raised will go straight to the students! In it's inaugural year, we awarded two scholarships.
